“Supporting our community as the healing process begins.”
As a lifelong Mainer, I, like many others, was shocked and deeply saddened with the news that 18 people were killed and more than a dozen injured by a gunman in Lewiston on October 25th. The impact of these events goes well beyond the Lewiston-Auburn community as the entire state has been affected. After all, Maine is, indeed, one small town.
We have both staff and members who live in or have ties to Lewiston-Auburn and have learned of other staff connections to the community including to some of those killed or injured. Unfortunately, we will likely hear of more connections in the days and weeks ahead. No words can express our sympathy and sorrow to those with personal ties to the events and the community.
In keeping with our long-time focus of ‘local helping local’, we are pleased to announce that Town & Country made a $1,000 contribution to the Lewiston-Auburn Area Response Fund, which was created by the Maine Community Foundation (MaineCF). This Fund will address current and emerging needs associated with this tragedy. With MaineCF as a conduit, 100% of every dollar donated will be allocated to people impacted and the organizations that will help guide Lewiston-Auburn through the process of healing. We are proud we were among the earliest contributors to make a significant contribution to this fund. We will continue to explore other ways we can help, including making a variety of mental health resources available for our staff to utilize, if needed.
While the process of healing and moving forward has begun, it will take time and there will be more difficult days ahead. At Town & Country, we will do our best to support our staff, members, and the community in any way we can. That’s what Mainers do and that’s what we do, too.
